SÀMI GRAND PRIX 2022

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

April 16th, 7.50 pm CEST, Sámi Grand Prix, The Saami version of Eurovision song contest will be live broadcasted on Swedish, Norwegian and Finish television and people will be able to follow the show and vote from all over the world, watch here. THIS is something unique since the Saami people are the Indigenous people from the northern part of Scandinavia and the foremost artists will be performing.

MY PERFORMANCE

The name of the song is Daelviejijje meaning winter night. In the chorus I'm singing "I’m dancing with you, on the top of the big mountain. Don’t let me go. The birches are freezing but in your arms I am warm. I’m dancing with you this winter night"

And when the birches are freezing and someone is keeping you warm, you know it's something unique with that person. But who said love was easy?

I lost my father in February 2021 due to brain cancer and the memory of him gave me inspiration for this song. The text then developed since it also could be that we have had a relationship with someone, but the relationship didn't last. And I do believe we all have had "that person" that we still miss but will never have in our lives again, still when you are thinking about that person you smile, because you remember all the beautiful moments you have shared.

The song celebrates the beautiful moments we share with someone, but that person for some reason is not in our lives anymore.

Even though time passes, memories will always be close to our hearts and something we can remember and smile too.

Like I shared earlier, I'm singing in Southern Saami (There are different Saami dialects). In my family, a few generations back, they stopped speaking the language because of the shame there was in being a Saami (Oppression created by the Swedish government). But THE music is my heart and through that I want to bring the language back to where it belongs.

I'm Saami, I'm latino. It's in my blood, it passes my heart every day and it makes me to who I am.

In one of the biggest tv shows, Nyhetsmorgon she got praised by the music reviewer Jan Gradvall. ”One song is better than all other songs in the Swedish Eurovision song contest, except for the 2 favorites”. And he talks about the new release “Daelviejijje”.
